Anxiety, you sneaky bastard.

Following a most excellent weekend of concert-going with Asher to see Tenacious D at the House of Blues and it being Sophie's first sleepover with her Grandma, I was sitting on the couch last night after having watched SNL on DVR (Justin Timberlake's hilarious 5th time hosting) so I was pretty relaxed, watching Girls (amazing episode btw) when all of a sudden fear struck me like a ton of bricks. My left arm felt numb, the left side of my face felt weird & I swear I thought I was having a stroke - just thinking about it makes my pulse rise. Along came a spider, erm...panic attack. I immediately hit the ground and assumed a dilligent child's pose. My pulse had to have been 150 and I was sweating and had tunnel vision and my ears felt full of cotton.  Managed to do this until the faint feeling subsided enough for me to want to talk. Called Asher up from the den to "hold me until this is over." Ugh. A good half-hour passed before I felt remotely clear-headed and then came utter exhaustion. I had no anti-anxiety meds on-hand which makes it an even more hopeless-feeling situation.

If one has never suffered from an anxiety/panic attack - it's impossible to really understand. In that 30 minute period of time I thought I was going to die. I was thinking of Sophie and Asher & how bad it would be if that was my final moments. I've cried several times this morning rethinking the terror I felt, I feel sorry for myself having to go through that.  It had been about 6 years since I'd had an attack - it was silly of me to think I was free of them. Now comes the anxiety of "when am I going to have another one?"

The truth will set you free...

Bustedddd.  All this time we've been together I have been holding Asher hostage here in Kinston (aka, Hell.)  I'm not really the down-to-earth, general anxiety ridden, small town girl who supports him and believes in him 200%...I'm actually this extremely manipulative brainwashing horrible person who has ripped him away from the life he was supposed to lead and have emasculated him to the point of him becoming merely the shell of a man he formally was...who follows my every order, cannot form a complete thought on his own and doesnt have a plan for his or his family's future.  Someone please help him.  Together we amount to nothing and everyone should feel sorry for us for we are religiousless heathens and if we continue on our current path of unriteousness we are surely doomed.

Read-A-Roo, we love you...

This post title has a couple of meanings.

1. I don’t know about y’all but we (Sophie and I) lurrrrrve "Read-a-Roo’s Block Party" that has been airing over the weekends on PBS Kids……………3 hours of “Peep and the Big Wide World.” It’s just too cute, and age-appropriate. I really have to be careful what Sophie watches – she hears something once, she makes it her business to use that crap in a sentence. Regardless. We don’t watch anything on TV that doesn’t have a G/PG rating unless that child is asleep. Have to. Also, we don’t watch ALL 3 hours of it, sheesh, give us some credit. It’s on while we’re playing.

2. This is the best part of this post, btw. “READ.” <--see that?! That’s what Sophie can do! I was straightening up the house this weekend and she said she had to go to the potty. It was about time for her to do her business (you know…) so, I left her in there with a couple of books and told her to call me when she was done. I was in the next room over when I heard her in there talking to herself. I went and stood outside the door and realized…she’s freaking READING. Not just pretend. But really actually matter-of-factually READING A FREAKIN BOOK. Mind you she would make up/guess at larger words but she read, I’d say, about 80% of the book on her own. We’re not talking “See Dick Run” either…it was a “Winnie the Pooh” book with PARAGRAPHS. #humblebrag

Later when we were on the couch just relaxing, I got a few more books out and we sat there and read together. She would sound out words and I’d help her with the longer, more difficult ones. But, for a 3-year-old to be able to recognize as many words as she does. I think it’s fantastic. My only hope is that we can keep that kid interested in school…I fear boredom may set in…
