This post title has a couple of meanings.
1. I don’t know about y’all but we (Sophie and I) lurrrrrve "Read-a-Roo’s Block Party" that has been airing over the weekends on PBS Kids……………3 hours of “Peep and the Big Wide World.” It’s just too cute, and age-appropriate. I really have to be careful what Sophie watches – she hears something once, she makes it her business to use that crap in a sentence. Regardless. We don’t watch anything on TV that doesn’t have a G/PG rating unless that child is asleep. Have to. Also, we don’t watch ALL 3 hours of it, sheesh, give us some credit. It’s on while we’re playing.
2. This is the best part of this post, btw. “READ.” <--see that?! That’s what Sophie can do! I was straightening up the house this weekend and she said she had to go to the potty. It was about time for her to do her business (you know…) so, I left her in there with a couple of books and told her to call me when she was done. I was in the next room over when I heard her in there talking to herself. I went and stood outside the door and realized…she’s freaking READING. Not just pretend. But really actually matter-of-factually READING A FREAKIN BOOK. Mind you she would make up/guess at larger words but she read, I’d say, about 80% of the book on her own. We’re not talking “See Dick Run” either…it was a “Winnie the Pooh” book with PARAGRAPHS. #humblebrag
Later when we were on the couch just relaxing, I got a few more books out and we sat there and read together. She would sound out words and I’d help her with the longer, more difficult ones. But, for a 3-year-old to be able to recognize as many words as she does. I think it’s fantastic. My only hope is that we can keep that kid interested in school…I fear boredom may set in…
